According to data submitted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to Lee Joon-seok, a member of the National Assembly's Science, ICT and Broadcasting Committee, the total amount of scholarships for research incentives for outstanding science and engineering students has increased by only 2.7% over the past five years, while the number of beneficiaries has decreased.
In addition, there was no record of expanding the appointment of science and technology officials or supporting science and technology organizations under the Special Act on Support for Science and Technology, and the production support project for science and broadcasting decreased from 5.99 billion won in 2019 to 4.76 billion won last year and was completely cut this year.
Rep. Lee Joon-seok pointed out that the government cannot properly manage the existing science and engineering training policy, and that "the plan to increase medical schools should be withdrawn first, rather than overusing urgent measures."
