Since the parliamentary conflict erupted, the number of surgeries for childhood cancer this year has decreased significantly from the same period last year.

According to the data received by Kang Sun-woo of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee, from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the number of pediatric cancer patients who operated at senior hospitals, general hospitals, and hospitals and clinics nationwide from February to July this year was 452.

This is 24% less than 591 people who had surgery in the same period a year ago.

Specifically, the number of pediatric cancer surgery patients decreased by 32% in a year at the largest so-called "Big 5" hospital and 27% in the overall high-level general hospital, but the number of general hospitals, hospitals and clinics increased by 20% from 39 to 47.

The number of patients who underwent surgery for rare diseases also reached 1,800 during the same period, down 13% from 2,000 a year ago.

Representative Kang said that the failure of the government's policy has damaged patients with childhood cancer and rare diseases, and stressed that the government should come up with customized measures based on reported cases.
