The Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul said it transferred the Gallery K case, which was being investigated, to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Criminal Guard.
A police official explained that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency decided to investigate the case directly due to the large scale of damage and complicated matters.
Gallery K has attracted investors, saying investing in art guarantees a 7% to 9% annual return through exhibitions or rentals, but is suspected of actually turning it back with the money of subordinated investors.
Investors who have not received the proceeds have filed a collective complaint since July, and the law firm that represents the victims estimates that the damage will be at least 100 billion won.
