Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yoo In-chon told the National Assembly yesterday (7th) that he thought it was impossible for the sports association to decide on a decision that would cost 200 billion won in state funds simply because it is a national training site.
Yoo noted that he could consider designating a competent department to solve the alternative problem or setting up an independent organization.
The KOC was scheduled to conduct due diligence on seven local governments that had applied for a substitute for the Taeneung International Skating Center in September, but suddenly suspended the process at the end of August.
Suspicions have also been raised that Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Council, who is seeking a third term, may have put the decision on hold in consideration of votes ahead of the next election for the chairman of the sports council in January next year.
