Russian forces have entered the outskirts of the eastern frontline city of Toretsk, Reuters reported.

"Russian forces entered the eastern outskirts of Toretsk on the 7th," a spokesman for the Luhansk Strategic Operations Group told state broadcaster. "There is fighting at every entrance."

Russia's defence ministry had no immediate comment but said Russian forces had damaged Ukrainian personnel and equipment in several settlements, including near Torretsg.

The advance of Russian forces, along with the occupation of Buhledar in Donetsk province last week, is proof of Russia's overwhelming dominance in troops and logistics, Reuters noted.

In particular, if Toretsk falls, Russian forces will be able to cut off major Ukrainian logistical routes on the eastern front, according to local military experts.

Since August, Russia has been stepping up its offensive in Donetsk, a battleground state on the eastern front, and has seized nearby towns for days to take control of Toretsk and Pokrovsk, which are considered key points in the region.
