Police and prosecutors have cleared Kim Kwang-dong, chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, of charges of defaming civilian victims slaughtered by the military and police during the Korean War.

In July, the Seoul Central Police Station decided not to send Kim, who was accused of defaming the victims of the preliminary arrest case with the National Press Federation in southern Chungcheongnam-do.

Earlier in February, Paik Nam-sik, the bereaved family of the victims, filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, saying that Chairman Kim wrote false facts such as "Labour members" or "execution of malicious servicemen" in his decision to investigate the truth.

Baek filed an objection to the decision not to send the police in September, but the prosecution was also found to have cleared Kim of charges.

Baek is also considering appealing the prosecution's decision.

The case of the National Press Federation and preliminary prosecution in southern Chungcheongnam-do was massacred by the military and police after the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, saying that members of the press federation could cooperate with left-wing forces.
