Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker 'Mocking Hanbok' Involved in scandal...withdrawal of nomination applications

Japan's Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Mio Sugita, who has caused controversy by mocking women in hanbok in the past, tried to run as a proportional representative candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives election on the 27th, but failed to win the nomination due to his involvement in a political fund scandal.

Three former and current lawmakers who were involved in the political fund scandal were missing from the Liberal Democratic Party's list of candidates for proportional nomination, but the party's local organization requested the sole nomination as proportional representation candidates.

"All three have withdrawn their applications for nominations," said Hiroshi Moriyama, secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party. "We intend to reflect on the failure and aim to make a comeback."

Earlier in April, Sugita, a three-term right-wing congresswoman, was suspended from her party's duties for six months as the amount of her poor political fund balance report reached 140 million won.
