Three former and current lawmakers who were involved in the political fund scandal were missing from the Liberal Democratic Party's list of candidates for proportional nomination, but the party's local organization requested the sole nomination as proportional representation candidates.
"All three have withdrawn their applications for nominations," said Hiroshi Moriyama, secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party. "We intend to reflect on the failure and aim to make a comeback."
Earlier in April, Sugita, a three-term right-wing congresswoman, was suspended from her party's duties for six months as the amount of her poor political fund balance report reached 140 million won.
