The first fossils of Stegosaurus dinosaur footprints in Korea have been found in Cheonggok-ri, Sadeung-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.

On the 14th, Geoje City announced that the first Stegosaurus dinosaur footprints in Korea were found after conducting a research service on fossil mountain areas in Cheonggok-ri with Kim Kyung-soo researchers at the Korea Geological Heritage Research Institute affiliated with Jinju National University of Education.

Stegosaurus, which lived during the late Jurassic period (155 million to 150 million years ago), is a herbivorous dinosaur found in the United States. It is characterized by a pair of large corrugated plates from neck to tail and a large bone needle at the tip of the tail.

The survey also identified dinosaur footprints such as long-necked herbivorous dinosaurs (sacons), carnivorous dinosaurs, and hadrosaurids from the Cretaceous period.

Various animal traces were also found, including webbed bird footprints, vibration bird footprints, Haman bird footprints in Korea, turtle footprints, and pterosaur estimated footprints.

In particular, 11 dinosaur skin impression fossils were identified in nine fossil layers. Dinosaur skin impressions are the fingerprints of dinosaur soles left by dinosaurs when they walk, and are highly rare because they are formed only during special times.

Geoje City plans to hold an interim report on the results of the survey on the 18th.
