Daily Le Parisien quoted Cabinet meeting participants as saying Macron's remarks at the closed-door meeting, adding that the president stressed that "Israel should not deviate from the UN decision."
Israel was founded the following year after the United Nations General Assembly passed a split resolution on November 29, 1947, giving Jews about 56% of the Palestinian land under British mandate.
President Macron's remarks are interpreted as a criticism of Israel's attack on U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon during the operation, saying it would eradicate Hezbollah from Lebanon.
President Macron also warned on the 11th that "France will not tolerate additional fire on peacekeepers."
