A man in his 60s who set his house on fire and drove away drunk after a marital fight was also sentenced to prison in the appeal trial.

The Chuncheon Court of the Seoul High Court sentenced 66-year-old A, who was charged with arson and drunk driving, to three years in prison, the same as the original trial.

A was put on trial on January 30 in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, on charges of setting fire to his home and driving a distance of 27km with a blood alcohol level of 0.106% exceeding the license cancellation level when his wife, who had a marital fight, did not return home after going to her child's home.

The investigation found that A took off the license plate in front of the vehicle and damaged the license plate in the back by hitting it with stones to avoid police tracking.

Earlier, the first trial court sentenced him to prison for leaving the scene without any effort to extinguish the fire after it soared, and there was no recovery from the damage or forgiveness of the victim, and A appealed, saying the sentence was unfair, but the second trial court refused to accept it.
