The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation said that the retail price of a cabbage was 9,123 won on average as of the 18th.

It is 39.8% more expensive than a year ago.

Cabbage prices are strong because supply has decreased due to sluggish cabbage growth due to the heat that continued until last month.

The price of radish, another kimchi-making vegetable, is similar.

The average price of a radish is 3,561 won, 46.9% more expensive than a year ago.

Also, the price jumped as the crop was sluggish and the demand increased as a substitute for cabbage, which has risen significantly.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs predicted that prices will fall during the full-fledged kimchi-making season as shipments of cabbage and radish increase from the end of this month.

However, the Korea Price Association predicts that the price of a cabbage will remain at an average of 5,300 won next month, exceeding 5,000 won for the first time in November.

In addition to cabbage and radish, other vegetables such as tomatoes have also become more expensive than last year, putting food prices on alert.

The retail price of tomatoes rose 51.7% from a year ago to KRW 14,00 per kilogram, while red lettuce rose 52.7% and zucchini rose 33.1%.
