British Foreign Minister David Lammy, who is set to visit Korea, expressed his intention to strengthen security cooperation with South Korea, fearing close ties between North Korea and Russia.

"North Korea continues its conflict in Europe by supporting Russia and threatens regional security with illegal weapons of mass destruction programs," Lammy said in a statement on the 19th local time.

"South Korea is a partner who has been with us not only in the stability of the Korean Peninsula but also in the defense of Ukraine," he said, adding that he would strengthen security cooperation.

Minister Lammy, who visited Beijing the day before, will attend the inauguration ceremony of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto today (20th) before visiting Korea.

The South Korean and British foreign ministers' strategic dialogue, which will take place tomorrow (21st), is expected to discuss North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia along with cooperation measures between the two countries.

The UK is one of the leading countries in international support for Ukraine after Russia's invasion of the country in 2022.
