The Maritime Self-Defense Force said yesterday afternoon that the U.S. Navy's F-35B landed vertically for the first time in Gaga, which was sent off the coast of San Diego, California.
This is a take-off and landing test to convert Gaga into an aircraft carrier, and the Self-Defense Forces will also check procedures, refueling, and maintenance of fighter jets in hangars with the support of the U.S. military until the 18th of next month.
The Japanese government carried out renovations in March this year that allowed fighter jets to take off and land in Gaga, and plans to complete Gaga's aircraft carrier a few years later after additional repairs such as internal compartment changes.
The Japanese government has already completed the first repair work on another frigate, Izumo, which is pushing for an aircraft carrier with Gaga.
