Amid a series of civilian damage due to the two wars Israel is waging, discussions on a ceasefire are going back and forth behind the scenes.

In particular, the Biden administration, which has been hamstrung by the Middle East issue two weeks before the presidential election, has decided to send Secretary of State Blinken to pressure the presidential envoy on a ceasefire.

During a visit to Lebanon, President Biden's envoy says he is working on a plan to end the war at once.

At the same time, he mentioned supplementing the existing UN resolution that established a buffer zone on Lebanon's border.

[Amos Hochstein, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East: United Nations Resolution 1701 succeeded in ending the war in 2006, but it must be acknowledged that nothing was done to implement it.]

But it is unclear whether Israel will be satisfied with this much.

Earlier, Israel reportedly offered conditions to operate freely across Lebanon's borders to directly monitor Hezbollah.

In fact, it is a demand to neutralize the UN resolution, so there is little possibility that the international community will accept it.

Behind-the-scenes discussions for negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza are similar.

Israel and Egypt have secretly contacted each other again since the death of Hamas leader Shinwar, but the issue of Israeli military presence has struggled.

To pressure a truce, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken has decided to travel to the Middle East again, but the outlook remains unclear.

[U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel: Secretary Blinken will discuss the end of the Gaza war, the release of all hostages, and the alleviation of the suffering of the Palestinian people.]

Israeli media reported that there would be no progress in negotiations until retaliation against Iran was completed.

Israeli forces continued all-round airstrikes to cut off Hezbollah's funding sources.

A missile strike targeted the head of a Hezbollah money-carrying unit in Syria's capital, Damascus.

It also said a day earlier it had destroyed an underground safe with tens of millions of dollars in cash and gold during an airstrike in Beirut.

However, the United Nations has condemned Israel's indiscriminate airstrikes as destroying a wide range of civilian property and sending residents into panic.
