New York shares closed mixed, reflecting concerns about a possible delay in the Federal Reserve's rate cut and corporate earnings reports.

On the New York Stock Exchange, blue-chip group Dow Jones 30 Industrial Average closed at 42,924.89, down 6.71 points and 0.02% from the previous session.

The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 index of large stocks rose 2.78 points and 0.05% lower than the previous session to 5,851.20, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 33.12 points and 0.18% from the previous session to 18,573.13.

About 20% of S&P 500 companies reported third-quarter earnings, with mostly earnings exceeding market expectations, and good corporate earnings supported the market.

However, the market ended mixed as the Fed did not declare victory over inflation and the prospect of slowing monetary policy easing continued.
