Han said in a congratulatory speech at the Central Forum that he may have been surprised, but there were also such solid agreements.
"Whatever the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, it is up to our politics to prepare for the changes that can occur," he said, stressing that more preparation is needed than other U.S. presidential elections as the center of U.S. diplomacy is likely to shift to Northeast Asia.
He also told Lee Jae-myung, who attended the event, that the U.S. presidential election and the South Korea-U.S. alliance are cross-border issues and political struggles should not cross borders, adding that a grand-scale politics that only looks at the national interest is necessary for diplomacy and security.
