Last month, the number of employed people in their 60s and older increased by more than 270,000 in a year, the highest ever.

One in four people working in Korea are in their 60s or older, surpassing their 50s for the first time and ranking first among all age groups.

However, the phenomenon of care and manufacturing concentration was noticeable.

[Im Kyung-eun / Director of Employment Statistics at Statistics Korea: In fact, there was a large increase in health and welfare and manufacturing industries. In the case of the health and welfare industry, the number of women aged 60 or older is increasing significantly..]

Start-ups in their 60s and older also increased rapidly, breaking monthly records.

Under the current law, the retirement age is 60 or older.

However, as economic activities over the age of 60 are prominent, there are growing calls for an extension of the retirement age.

[Son Hyang-ran / Yangpyeong-dong, Seoul: People in their 60s and over 75s work a lot and do a lot of hobbies, and if you look at it, you can only see them in their 60s. Because you're all working so hard.]

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security and Daegu City first raised the retirement age for public service to 65, and eight out of 10 companies are positive about extending the retirement age.

Amid the forecast that the elderly population will reach 20 million by 2050, a proposal has also been made to raise the standard for the elderly to 75.

[Lee Jung-geun / President of the Korea Senior Citizens' Association: The current age of the elderly aged 65 has been raised step by step for one year so that the number of the elderly can be properly managed at around 75 years old....]

At a time when we are about to enter a super-aged society, the establishment of a new social system is emerging as a topic of our society.
