Among the victims of voice phishing crimes impersonating government agencies such as the prosecution, the proportion of the elderly in their 60s or older has more than doubled.

The National Police Agency said 918 of the 6,523 victims of institutional impersonation-type voice phishing crimes in September this year accounted for 24% of the total.

Last year, 847 out of 8,576 victims in their 60s or older accounted for 10% of the total.

On the other hand, the number of victims of young people under their 20s fell from 76% last year to 54% this year.

A police official cautioned that voice phishing organizations seem to be moving their targets to the elderly as more young people who are accustomed to the criminal method of impersonating institutions do not fall for it.
