Amid the constant voice phishing crimes impersonating government agencies such as prosecutors and the Financial Supervisory Service, the damage to the elderly, especially women in their 60s, has increased significantly.

Criminal organizations seem to target older women who are more vulnerable to information than young people, so caution is needed.

I'm Prosecutor Kang ○○ at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. I'm contacting you to investigate the victim's verification by name theft because the bankbook opened in your name was used for a crime.

Since the case itself has been designated as an embargo case, please cooperate in an independent space to deliver the contents of the case.

He scares me to cooperate with the investigation because he is involved in the crime, saying he is a prosecutor or employee of the Financial Supervisory Service.

But it's all made up by voice phishing scammers.

However, it turns out that the damage of voice phishing impersonating a government agency is concentrated on women in their 60s.

Until September this year, 24% of victims of institutional impersonation-type voice phishing crimes accounted for elderly people in their 60s or older, more than doubling from the same period last year.

The damage is increasing as the number of elderly people increases.

The number of cases of damage of more than 100 million won has nearly tripled from last year.

In particular, the proportion of female victims in their 60s surged from 8% in January to 23% in September.

On the other hand, the proportion of victims in their teens and 20s decreased by more than 20%p in a year,
It is analyzed that
criminal organizations focus on elderly women with less information due to reduced social activities than young people who are familiar with voice phishing methods.

[Baek Eui-hyung / Head of phishing crime investigation at the National Police Agency: Young people have been taught this method (institutional impersonation) to some extent, so (the damage) has been reduced.... They believe that criminal organizations are attempting to commit crimes by targeting women in their 60s.]

Experts caution that criminal organizations are investigating or threatening elderly people who are vulnerable to psychological pressure, saying they will be arrested.

It also emphasizes that if you impersonate an institution to access a specific site or install an application, never respond.

[Ok Uicheon / Lawyers who used to be a police officer: If you click on the app, all the information is leaked and there is a lot of damage. You should never click on any loan text that you don't know.

Police recently impersonated the Financial Supervisory Service and others to approach victims who suffered investment losses, saying they have recovered criminal funds, so please be careful.
