The North Korean mission to the United Nations has repeatedly denied providing weapons, saying it is "just a groundless rumor" about Western criticism of the arms trade between North Korea and Russia, including South Korea.

At a meeting of the first committee of the U.N. General Assembly on the 24th, an official at the North Korean delegation to the U.N. said, "It is nothing more than a groundless rumor that damages North Korea's image and undermines the legitimate and friendly cooperative relationship between sovereign states under the U.N. Charter."

"This is another smear campaign in which Ukraine seeks to maintain its political power by prolonging the crisis and receiving more weapons and financial support from the West," he added.

Earlier, an official at the South Korean mission to the United Nations said, "All illegal military cooperation between North Korea and Russia should be clearly condemned," and stressed that "North Korea and Russia should immediately stop violating international obligations."

"Russia procured weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment from North Korea in violation of Security Council resolutions," a Ukrainian delegation official said. "Russia's dismantling of a panel of experts monitoring violations of sanctions against North Korea was an attempt to hide military and technical cooperation between North Korea and Russia."

As the international security crisis escalates due to North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia to help Russia invade Ukraine, the U.N. has been engaged in a series of war of words between the West and North Korea, including South Korea.
