As onions used in hamburgers were blamed for the recent U.S. food poisoning outbreak of McDonald's hamburgers E. coli, other large fast food companies have also taken measures such as stopping the use of raw onions.

According to the Associated Press and other foreign media, McDonald's officials say the E. coli detected in its hamburger is related to raw onions supplied by Taylor Farms, a food company in Salinas, California.

A McDonald's spokesperson said the raw onion in question was delivered from a single supplier and delivered to each branch after a thinly sliced process and packaging process in a single facility.

Other well-known fast food chains, including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC, have also taken steps, including restricting the use of raw onions in their food.

Earlier on the 22nd, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that 49 people in 10 states showed symptoms of food poisoning caused by E. coli O157:H7, and one of them died and about 10 were hospitalized.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the day before that raw onions could be the cause of the McDonald's food poisoning outbreak, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it is investigating all possibilities related to the cause of the outbreak and that the cause has not yet been determined.
