The Criminal Investigation Office of high-ranking government officials, which investigates allegations of external pressure on the Coporal Chae's death row, emphasized that the prosecutors in charge desperately need to serve consecutive terms for the continuity of the investigation.

Oh Dong-woon, head of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit, said at a comprehensive parliamentary audit of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee today (25th) that "four prosecutors are urgently required to serve consecutive terms in order to maintain the continuity of the investigation, stabilize the organization, and secure new and excellent personnel."

At the same time, he added that he expects President Yoon Suk Yeol to fully consider this when he approves his second term.

The Senior Prosecutor's Office held a personnel committee in August to recommend four prosecutors, including Lee Dae-hwan, the chief prosecutor of the investigation department 4, and Cha Jung-hyun, the investigation planning officer, to serve consecutive terms, but President Yoon's approval, who has the authority to appoint, has not been released.

Their term of office is until midnight on the 27th, but if President Yoon does not make a decision, he is expected to be excluded from his work from the 28th.

If they retire, there will be only one rank-and-file prosecutor left in the investigation team of the Coporal Chae, and some observers say that the investigation team could actually take steps to disband.

The number of prosecutors at the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit is 25, including the wife and deputy chief, but only 18 are currently working.

Among them, three prosecutors are scheduled to resign or finish their terms, so if they fail to serve consecutive terms, the number of prosecutors at the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit will be reduced to 11.
