The Fair Trade Commission said it will impose a fine of 195 million won and a correction order on the Dutch operator Booking dotcom VV, which operates 'Booking dotcom'.
Booking.Com VV is a global operator that provides integrated travel services by connecting customers with companies that provide accommodation, flight tickets, and rental cars.
BookingCom exposed advertising phrases from its "free airport taxi" promotion to consumers from June 2022 to September the following year, which it does not actually offer.
The free airport taxi service is a service that allows you to use a taxi from the airport to your accommodation for free if you book a certain accommodation product for more than a certain amount.
Booking.COM suspended its free airport taxi service, which began in April 2022, in June of the same year, but has since been confirmed to have continued to expose ads.
The FTC found Booking.COM's ads to be "false ads" that consumers misunderstood or possibly misidentified.
A FTC official said it is meaningful that it has taken strict measures against violations of domestic laws by overseas online platforms without discrimination against platforms.
