Russia's Defense Ministry said in a statement today local time that it had prevented eight Ukrainian attacks on the Kursk front and had destroyed U.S.-made armored vehicles.
It also claimed that more than 27,000 troops have been lost in Kursk alone since Ukrainian forces crossed the border in early August.
Earlier, the Ukrainian military announced that more than 6,600 Russian troops have been killed and 10,000 injured in Kursk so far.
Russia's defense ministry also said it had captured an additional town of Izmailiuka, 34 kilometers from Donetsk, on Ukraine's eastern front.
It also briefed on the killing of 770 Ukrainian troops in eastern and southern Ukraine over a 24-hour period.
