The agreement was designed to develop technology for design, construction, operation, and maintenance prior to the construction of an underwater data complex with 100,000 servers on the seabed of 30m off Ulsan.
Under the agreement, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology is in charge of promoting research projects and developing original technologies, while GS Engineering & Construction and POSCO will promote cooling and heat dissipation technologies, optimal design and construction technologies.
Following the signing ceremony, the discussion was held on four topics: the establishment of an eco-friendly underwater data center, the establishment of a foundation for power saving and information and communication technology, a study on heat dissipation performance evaluation, the selection of appropriate steel for pressure containers, and a study on thickness reduction structure.
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, "Once the underwater data center complex is built, Ulsan is expected to grow into a base for the data center industry through the participation of ICT-related companies."
