Cheongju City officials, who were put on trial in connection with the Osong Underground Road disaster in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, where 14 people were killed, denied all prosecution charges at the first hearing.

The Cheongju District Court held its first hearing on three people, including a Cheongju city official, who was handed over to trial without detention on charges of professional negligence and death.

They argued that the temporary levee burst was not a maintenance site in Cheongju City and that it was difficult to say that it violated its duty of care.

He also denied the allegations, saying perfect surveillance was virtually impossible.

They are accused of not properly conducting safety checks on the levee and not checking the damage at the time of the accident.
