Former lawmaker Yoon received two years in prison in the second trial, right?
[Reporter]
Yes,
The
Supreme Court today (31st) confirmed the original ruling, which sentenced Yoon Kwan-seok, a former lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, to two years in prison in an appeal.
This confirms former lawmaker Yoon's guilt.
Earlier, former lawmaker Yoon was put on trial for raising more than 60 million won in donations to fellow lawmakers to win the election of former representative Song Young-gil ahead of the Democratic Party's national convention in 2021.
Representative Yoon is the first lawmaker to be confirmed by the Supreme Court among the former and current lawmakers who were handed over to trial over allegations of money envelopes of the Democratic Party.
Former lawmaker Yoon received two years in prison in both the first and second trials,
At the time of
the court pointed out that committing fraud, such as buying electors with money in internal party elections, is a serious crime that shakes the roots of democracy.
During the trial, former lawmaker Yoon denied the charges, saying he did not instruct camp officials to raise money and valuables and only delivered money envelopes, but they were not accepted.
The Supreme Court also rejected the appeal, saying there was no mistake in misunderstanding the legal principles, such as the establishment of a violation of the party law.

What impact is expected on the trial of lawmakers who received money envelopes with former lawmaker Yoon?
[Reporter]
Yes, it is interpreted that former Democratic Party Secretary-General Lee Jung-geun's ability to testify was recognized for the transcript of the money envelope case when former lawmaker Yoon was convicted.
Former lawmaker Yoon was found to have delivered envelopes of 3 million won each to about 10 lawmakers from the same party.
During the investigation, former lawmakers Lee Sung-man and Lim Jong-sung and Heo Jong-sik of the Democratic Party of Korea were indicted on charges of accepting envelopes of money and were both sentenced to suspended prison sentences in the first trial, and are currently on trial at an appeals court.
Former CEO Song Young-gil is also scheduled to make a decision next month, and the first trial is expected to be sentenced as early as this year.
The prosecution is also continuing its investigation into other former and current lawmakers suspected of receiving money envelopes.
In this regard, the prosecution notified six active lawmakers from the Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party to attend by the middle of next month.
As the parliamentary audit schedule has recently been completed, the schedule for attendance has been adjusted, and six incumbent lawmakers have refused to summon the prosecution for reasons such as floor schedules.
The prosecution says that as former lawmaker Yoon has been convicted, a face-to-face investigation is necessary for a thorough investigation into other lawmakers.
