Millions of won worth of foreign currency, including yuan and dollars, was stolen from the Incheon International Airport Lost and Found.

The subsidiary of Incheon International Airport Corporation reported that it was the work of an internal employee and asked the police to investigate, but YTN coverage revealed a loophole in foreign currency loss management.

Reporter Yoon Woong-sung reports exclusively.

Last July, a Chinese tourist visited the Incheon International Airport Lost and Found.

It was to find the bag that I lost when I left the country two months ago, and it contained dollars and yuan worth 6 million won.

However, it was already recorded that someone had visited the bag a month ago at the lost and found office.

The Incheon International Airport Corporation subsidiary, which operates the lost property management office, issued an internal audit, believing that employee A in his 30s falsely recorded the money as if the owner had visited him and stole the money.

Mr. A is said to deny that he did not take the money.

However, the background of this was the problem of poor management of lost foreign currency.

When lost cash is received at the management office, it must be stored for a month and handed over to the police, but in the case of foreign currency, it has been treated as being handed over to the police and actually kept it at the management office.

As the lost person is often a foreigner, it seems to be a measure for the convenience of the return process.

However, the risk of theft or loss is bound to increase without following these principles.

[Incheon Airport Corporation's subsidiary: (An embezzled employee)I don't think there's that much hit, I'm hissing up there and the staff is feeling a bit skeptical...]

Incheon International Airport Corporation said that the lost and found management office is operated by a subsidiary, but it plans to come up with improvement measures in consultation with subsidiaries and police to prevent a recurrence.

The subsidiary is conducting an internal audit, including a full investigation of the lost items received, to see if there are similar cases.

In addition, a complaint was filed with the police to confirm the exact extent of the damage and the details of the crime.
