Some employees of Samsung Electronics, who were convicted in the first trial in connection with the carbon dioxide leak at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant, which caused three casualties in 2018, were found not guilty by an appeals court.

The Suwon District Court overturned the lower court's conviction and acquitted two Samsung Electronics employees on charges of professional negligence and other charges.

In the first trial, they were sentenced to eight months in prison, two years of probation, and six months in prison and one year of probation, respectively.

Eight employees of Samsung Electronics and its subcontractors were fined 3 million won and sentenced to 10 months in prison with two years of probation, respectively, while two Samsung Electronics employees and one subcontractor were acquitted at the appeal trial, just like the original trial.

The Samsung Electronics corporation, which is suspected of violating the Fire Facility Act, was reduced from a fine of 5 million won in the first trial to 3 million won in the second trial.

In September 2018, a carbon dioxide leak occurred at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, killing two people, including a partner company employee in his 50s, and injuring one.
