U.S. Secretary of State Tunney Blinken said at a joint press conference after a meeting of South Korean foreign and defense ministers at the State Department building in Washington, saying there was information that 8,000 North Korean soldiers had recently moved to the Kursk region.
Blinken says Russia has trained the North Korean military in basic infantry operations, including artillery, drones and targeting trenches, as well as military uniforms and equipment.
Given this situation, he/she said, "We do not yet know whether the North Korean military will participate in the frontline operation, but we expect to join the battle against Ukraine in a few days."
Blinken said Russia's dependence on North Korean troops is just as desperate and that Putin is bringing in North Korean soldiers as Russian soldiers die by 1,200 every day.Defense Secretary
Loyd Austin also repeatedly warned that Russia's use of North Korean mercenaries shows that Russia's strength has weakened and that it would become a legitimate military target if North Korean troops were sent to the battlefield.
Austin said North Korean troops can protect Kursk even if they are deployed, noting that the 10,000 North Korean soldiers who will replace Russia's losses are not large compared to the number of Russian casualties.
