The Washington Post said in an online editorial on the 2nd local time that North Korea's dispatch of combat troops to support Russian President Putin's invasion of Ukraine is a "dangerous deterioration."
It also predicted that North Korea's deployment could gradually weaken Europe's willingness to support the war as Ukraine's forces are running dry, while Russia has additional personnel to drag the war on for a longer time.
At the same time, he analyzed that it could give weight to President Putin's big goal of showing that Russia is not isolated in the world.
The Washington Post also predicted that North Korea would receive cash from Russia in exchange for the deployment and gain access to military technology that has so far been unavailable due to U.N. sanctions.
The North Korean military will receive training for modern warfare, including the use of advanced weapons and drones, and this experience will be an important asset for North Korea in future conflicts with South Korea.
The paper added that the United States needs firm diplomacy, strong alliances and solid deterrence to counter growing threats such as Russia and North Korea, which is the main challenge facing the next president.
