Dozens of people gathered in Jackson, Wyoming, on the night of the 2nd local time to hold a candlelight rally and mourn the death of a female grizzly bear "399."
The bear, widely known as "399" because of the identification tag attached by wildlife researchers, was struck and killed on the 22nd of last month by a car running on a highway in western Wyoming.
"399," who was 28 years old this year, gave birth to and raised 18 cubs throughout his life, and has been loved by residents and tourists as he is often seen with cubs.
In the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, which encompasses Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teaton National Park, an average of three grizzly bears are killed when they are hit by cars every year.
