Elementary schools have been ordered to close for a week as air quality in Pakistan's second-largest city of Lahore deteriorates to record levels.

Punjab Chief Minister Mariyum Aurangzeb said at a press conference on the 3rd local time that "winds are blowing in the direction of Lahore from India" and that "kindergartens and fifth graders will be closed for a week."

AFP reported that Lahore's air quality index soared to 1,067 on the 2nd, the previous day, well above 300 considered "dangerous."

On the same day, the concentration of ultrafine dust was also recorded at 610㎍/㎥, exceeding the recommended limit of 15㎍/㎥ set by the World Health Organization as of 24 hours.
