Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Bong-sik said on the 4th that he has secured a guest statement from an officetel building owned by Moon. Moon is accused of illegally using officetels for lodging business without reporting his business (violation of the Public Health Management Act).
The police are investigating Moon after receiving requests for investigation in Yeongdeungpo-gu, complaints from civic groups, and complaints from the National Newspaper.
In addition, we received a reference statement from some of the guests that they actually stayed in the officetel, and we plan to check whether there are foreign guests and investigate them later.
When asked if he could visit the officetel in person to check whether the illegal accommodation was operated, a high-ranking official from the Seoul Metropolitan Government replied, "The guest is a reference, so we cannot conduct a forced investigation," adding, "We are checking whether there are guests and if so, how they stayed."
The police plan to ask Airbnb to cooperate with the investigation if necessary. Earlier, the police are continuing their investigation into Moon's drunk driving case, leaving open various possibilities, including charges of injury.
