The results of the second trial of a 4.2 billion won damages lawsuit filed by the former agency against actor Kang Ji-hwan, who stopped his activities due to sexual assault by a staff member.

Today (6th) an appeals court ruling will be issued for damages filed by former agency Kang Ji-hwan.

The agency filed a lawsuit against Kang Ji-hwan for violating his exclusive contractual obligations, but lost the first trial a year ago.

On November 29 last year, the 14th Civil Affairs Department of the Seoul Central District Court ruled that all claims of the former agency were dismissed in a 4.2 billion won damages lawsuit filed by Kang Ji-hwan's former agency against him.

For Kang Ji-hwan's real estate, which had been seized at the request of the former agency, the Suwon District Court ruled on December 22 last year to cancel the seizure decision.

Kang Ji-hwan was put on trial in July 2019 on charges of sexually assaulting one person and molesting the other after drinking with two outsourced staff members at home while filming the TV Chosun drama "Joseon Survival." In this case, Kang Ji-hwan was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and suspended for three years.

At that time, Kang Ji-hwan got off the "Joseon Survival Period," which finished filming the 12th part, and Seo Ji-seok was put in as a successor to finish filming. The 20-episode "Joseon Survival Period" was also reduced to 16 episodes.

Then, the drama production company filed a lawsuit to return a total of 6.38 billion won, including the already paid performance fee and contractual penalty, saying, "Kang Ji-hwan's crime made it impossible to fulfill his obligations under the appearance contract."

In the first trial, it was considered to be responsible for only 610 million won out of the total amount, but the appeals court ruled to jointly pay 5.38 billion won. In response, the former agency filed a lawsuit again against Kang Ji-hwan for 4.2 billion won in default damages.
