The president's office said the special agreement on defense cost sharing between South Korea and the U.S., SMA, has already been completed, and regardless of the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, it will have the effect of presenting a reference point as a result of sufficient consultation between the two countries.

A senior presidential official told reporters today (6th) that the Korean National Assembly has completed the process of a Cabinet meeting to request ratification of the Korea-U.S. defense cost-sharing special agreement.

"I don't know how the new U.S. president will come up with the South Korea-U.S. defense cost-sharing agreement after February next year, but what is clear is that the two countries have expanded various aspects of the alliance in addition to the size and amount of defense contributions."

He added that former President Trump, Vice President Harris, and the camps on both sides also understand the content well.
