Dozens of people have been killed when Israeli forces heavily bombarded parts of Lebanon targeting pro-Iranian militant Hezbollah.

In a day of six days local time, Baalbek, near the Becca Valley in eastern Lebanon, was struck about 40 times, killing 38 people and injuring 54.

Some local media reported 45 deaths and 59 injuries in Baalbek.Missiles were also reported to have fallen in a parking lot near the ancient Roman ruins of

Baalbek is a city called Heliopolis when it was conquered by Alexander the Great of Macedon in B.C.

The temples built here during the Roman Empire are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Bombings have also been carried out in the Dahiye region, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Lebanon's capital Beirut, following a preliminary Israeli evacuation warning.

"Air forces have attacked Hezbollah command headquarters, weapons storage and terrorist infrastructure located in the Dahiye civilian enclave," the Israeli military said in a statement.
