Australia has decided to create a law banning the use of social networking services and social media for children under the age of 16.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a press conference on the 7th that he will propose a law to the National Assembly this month to ban children under the age of 16.

In particular, misogynistic content aimed at male students puts girls in a dangerous situation, he said. "It can be a really difficult time if mature children come across such content."

The Australian government explained that the new law will apply to children with parental consent without exception and that social media platform companies are responsible for the measures and responsibilities to prevent children from accessing social media.

If a child uses SNS, it is not that children or parents are punished, but that SNS companies have taken appropriate measures to prevent it, and if they do not prepare it properly, they will be fined enormous.

The Australian government has informed that it will be discussed at a national leadership meeting with state prime ministers on the 8th and that the law will take effect 12 months after it is presented to parliament later this month.

Instagram and Facebook, TikTok, X and YouTube are likely to be subject to the law.
