Prosecutors secure Lee Jae-myung's involvement in Kim Yong's 'illegal political funds' defense

The prosecution has secured circumstantial evidence that Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, was involved in the direction of Kim Yong, former vice president of the Korea Institute of Democracy,'s "illegal political funds."

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office recently submitted a statement to the court of the perjury teacher case of representative Lee's presidential campaign as additional evidence.

Since April last year, CEO Lee has been found to have participated in a Telegram chat room where former Vice Chairman Kim's lawyer is included, sharing the trial situation and suggesting the direction of his argument.

Kim was indicted in November last year on charges of receiving 800 million won in illegal presidential election funds from lawyer Nam Wook, a developer of Daejang-dong, in 2021.

Since then, he was sentenced to five years in prison in the first trial in November last year.

The prosecution reportedly secured a statement that representative Lee first requested to participate in the chat room of former vice president Kim's lawyers and took a picture of the trial evidence and delivered it.

The prosecution believes that if former Vice Chairman Kim's illegal political funds are recognized, it could be a problem whether representative Lee was involved in the crime, and suspects that he was involved in the trial to block it.
