POSCO "In the midst of field investigation..."There will be no disruption to the total volume of operations"
Pohang Steelworks Inundated by Typhoon in 2022...Recovery in 4 months
POSCO said the fire will not have a significant impact on steel production at Pohang Steelworks.
As the evolutionary work has been completed, we plan to analyze the exact cause and set up a recovery plan.
Reporter Kim Tae-min's report.

Finex Plant 3, which caught fire this time, is a facility completed in 2014, and can produce up to 2 million tons of steel a year.
It is a structure that melts iron ore and coal in powder form to make molten metal, and the specific point of fire is estimated to be the surrounding facilities of the "melting furnace" where raw materials gather in one place.
POSCO believes that after the fire site investigation is completed, it will be able to determine the specific cause and the timing of recovery.
The fire will not disrupt the entire operation volume of Pohang Steelworks, it said.
[Choi Nam-Hyun / POSCO PR Team Leader: We believe that there will be no problem in supplying and receiving steel products through flexible operation of three blast furnaces in Pohang other than the FINEX plant. We are investigating property damage and fire causes, and we will do our best to resolve the accident.]
This is not the first time the Pohang Steelworks has suffered.
In September 2022, a heavy downpour from Typhoon Hinnamno caused most of the steelworks to be submerged, resulting in a complete recovery in 135 days.
However, in the case of this fire, it is expected that a thorough investigation will be needed to see if there were any problems with the safety management of key facilities as it has nothing to do with natural disasters.
