An aide to U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris has argued that President Joe Biden should resign before the end of his term to give Harris a chance to become president.

"Biden was a phenomenal president who fulfilled many of his promises, and there's one more thing I can do," Jamal Simmons, who served as Vice President Harris's chief public affairs secretary, said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I can make Kamala Harris president by resigning from the presidency in 30 days."

Simmons' comments came after the Biden administration was asked what is the most important thing to pursue for the remaining two months of his term.

Under the U.S. Constitution, the presidency is succeeded by the vice president, who also serves as chairman of the Federal Senate, in the event of a president's death, resignation, or inability to serve as president.

At the time, other panels responded to Simmons' remarks with a straight face as if they were not realistic.

"Biden should resign and make Harris the first female president," Simmons said in a post on social media X after appearing on the show. "That will turn the tide against Trump and make it easier for the next woman to run for president."

Vice President Harris, who was completely defeated by President-elect Donald Trump in the presidential election on the 5th, has not responded to Simmons' remarks at all, according to Politico and other U.S. media.
