U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will appoint former White House speech officer Stephen Miller as deputy White House chief of staff for policy, CNN reported.

Miller led a tough border immigration policy under Trump's first-term government and also designed a large-scale deportation pledge for illegal immigrants in this campaign.

CNN said Miller said he would increase the number of illegal immigrant deportations to more than 1 million a year, more than 10 times the number of illegal immigrants in Trump's second administration.

Earlier, Trump announced that he would appoint Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as the new government's border tsar, clarifying his willingness to help expel immigrants and strengthen the border.
