Citrus fruits that come to mind when the cold wind blows are shipped from Jeju.

Production is expected to decrease due to the damage caused by the heat wave, but it tastes good.

Jeju Island plans to thoroughly manage distribution so that only high-quality tangerines can be shipped.

"Tak Tak"

I can hear tangerine picking everywhere in the tangerine field.

Only yellow ripe tangerines are selected and harvested one by one.

The farmer, who was worried about the quality falling due to the scorching heat and frequent autumn rains last summer, is relieved to taste tangerines.

[Kang Seung-gyu / Citrus grower: I don't think the sugar level is that bad, so I don't think it tastes bad. I think it's good. So, I think consumers will be satisfied.]

The field citrus harvest is in full swing in Jeju, but this year's harvest is not as good as in previous years.

The Korea Rural Economic Research Institute has predicted tangerine production to be around 378,000 tons this year.

At the end of this month, the Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services will also release production this year, but it is expected to be the lowest in the past five years.

On top of that, more than two out of ten citrus trees on the tree suffer heat and damage from bursting shells, so the actual yield is expected to decrease further.

The heat and phenomenon of the bursting of the bark of the fruit led to the fruit, and the size of the citrus on the tree became larger than usual. Therefore, the proportion of these products has decreased this year compared to previous years.

Accordingly, Jeju Island plans to block the distribution of tangerines other than products and crack down thoroughly so that only high-quality tangerines can be distributed.

[Oh Young-hoon / Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province: We will strengthen the crackdown on non-product citrus fruits with the relevant departments centered on the local police. I think our most important task is to create a structure in which only good tangerines can be distributed in the consumer market.]

Attention is focusing on whether Jeju citrus, which boasts a still delicious taste even though production has decreased, will be able to maintain its national fruit position this winter.
