Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea, said he will set up an economic and security committee to strengthen economic cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. in five areas: energy, bio, telecommunications, standardization, and culture.

Lee told the Supreme Council that it was time for a sophisticated tailored strategy as global markets were fluctuating due to Trump's wave of U.S.-firstism, represented by protectionism and tariffs.

Spokesperson Hwang Jung-ah told reporters that this year's economic rebound has turned on a red light, and the KOSPI is driving back alone even though all other indexes are on the rise, explaining that he will quickly form a special economic security committee to prepare for the second Trump administration.
