The New York Times reported on the 13th local time that the U.S. state of New York has decided to re-promote a plan to collect congestion fees, which was intended to be imposed on vehicles entering downtown Manhattan in New York City, but was put on hold.

New York Governor Cathy Hockel will reportedly announce a plan to resume a congestion toll collection program that calls for collecting $9 in tolls and 13,000 won in our money for vehicles entering central Manhattan.

Earlier, New York City tried to implement a program in late June to collect $15 (about 20,000 won) tolls for vehicles entering central Manhattan.

The funds were to be used to expand the public transportation system, such as repairing aging subway lines.

However, Governor Hockel indefinitely put the implementation on hold in early June, five months before the presidential election, citing the burden on the working class.

Gov. Hockel is pushing to lower toll levels to $9 from $15 before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, the New York Times said.

During the election process, Trump pledged to abolish the congestion charge collection plan that New York City was trying to push for.
