President Yoon Suk Yeol held a Korea-U.S.-Japan summit with U.S. President Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba in Peru, where he visited to attend APEC.
President Yoon said cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan is essential for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region amid the global complex crisis.
Let's hear all of President Yoon's remarks firsthand.
[Yoon Suk Yeol / President: Last year, we decided to hold the trilateral summit annually in Camde, and it is my pleasure to meet President Biden and the new Prime Minister Ishiba today.
Today's meeting demonstrates the three countries' strong commitment to the continuous development of cooperation between Korea, the U.S. and Japan.
In the midst of a global complex crisis, cooperation between Korea, the U.S. and Japan is not only in the national interests of all three countries, but also essential for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
As can be seen from the recent dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia, the severe internal and external security environment reminds us once again the importance of trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan.
Cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan has been strengthening day by day since last year's Camp David summit led by President Biden.
Thank you, Mr President, for your leadership.
High-level consultations, including the three-nation summit, have become annual and new consultative bodies are actively operating in various fields.
The experience of trilateral cooperation is rapidly accumulating, leading to tangible results.
The trilateral cooperation has now evolved beyond security into a comprehensive and institutional cooperation that encompasses the economy, advanced technologies such as AI quantum, and exchanges of future generations.
The trilateral cooperation secretariat, which will be launched as a result of today's meeting, will serve as a solid foundation for greater cooperation between the three countries.
I look forward to having a unique discussion with you today about the close cooperation and cooperation of the three countries.
