A 50-year-old man who beat his sick mother to death, saying he would provide spiritual treatment, was sentenced to prison.

The Busan District Court's Western Branch sentenced A, in his 50s, to three years in prison on charges of persistent injury and death.

Mr. A, who suffers from mental illness, is accused of assaulting his mother in her 70s overnight with vitriol, etc., saying that he was receiving spiritual treatment at his residence in November last year.

The mother eventually died of suffocation after showing signs of difficulty breathing due to a broken rib.

The court said the crime was heavy and immoral, but it considered that A committed the crime believing he had the ability to treat it, and that other siblings did not want to be punished.
