The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the Yoon Suk Yeol government not to insult the sacrifice of Sunyeol anymore, saying that the restoration of relations with Japan cannot be a justification for erasing the old history and digging through the pain of the victims.

Spokesperson Ahn Gui-ryeong said in a written briefing to mark the 85th National Martyr's Day, "The wounds of victims of forced labor and Japanese Military Sexual Slavery have not yet healed."

He then pointed out that the bust of independence activists had to be embroiled in a controversy over the demolition of pro-Japanese history, and that history textbooks advocating pro-Japanese and dictatorship passed the examination.
