The 85th National Foundation Day Central Ceremony was held at Daejeon National Cemetery at 11 a.m. today (17th) to commemorate the spirit of sacrifice of patriotic martyrs who devoted themselves to restoring national sovereignty in Japanese colonial era.

Today's ceremony, which was attended by more than 300 people, including bereaved families of independence fighters and key government figures, was held for the first time in front of the "Road to Gather the Hope of Independence," a memorial facility honoring 6,400 people of independence merit without descendants or graves at Daejeon Memorial Park.

In this regard, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs explained that the venue of the event was selected to express the government's willingness to remember all of the independence merit, which has not been well known.

In the wake of today's ceremony, 33 people of independence merit, including Heo Dae-seop, who was arrested for participating in the armed independence movement in Japanese colonial era and died in prison, were also rewarded.
