Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise visit to the eastern frontline town of Ukraine, where fighting is taking place with Russia.

President Zelenskyy revealed his visit to Pokrovsk in the eastern part of the country on social media today (18th) local time, stressing that this is an area of tension, and security is the top priority.

At the same time, he commended the soldiers, saying it was thanks to the soldiers that the eastern part of the country was not fully occupied by Russia.

President Zelensky's visit to the eastern frontline comes a day after a New York Times report said U.S. President Biden approved the use of long-range missiles to attack Ukraine's mainland Russia.

Russian forces have been focusing on the occupation of Pokrovsk, a key logistical base on the eastern front, and have now approached as far as 8km from Pokrovsk, Reuters said.
